What can I do in the ENS App and in ENS Explorer?

See which jobs you can do in the ENS App, which need ENS Explorer, and which work in both.

ENS App and Explorer are on the Sepolia testnet. Features may change before mainnet.

ENS has two apps. Start with the ENS App (sepolia.app.ens.domains): it is where most people register, renew and look after their names. ENS Explorer (sepolia.explorer.ens.domains) does those jobs too, and is the only place for the jobs marked below. Looking things up needs no wallet; any change needs a connected wallet.

Which app should I use?

  • ENS App: for newcomers and everyday users. Search for a name, register and renew it, set your primary name and build your profile: avatar, bio, social links and addresses on other chains. You can also get expiry alerts and save favourite names. You don't need to know how ENS works under the hood.

  • ENS Explorer: for power users, builders and people helping others fix a problem. It shows what ENS holds for any name or address: who owns it, where it points, its roles and its history. It also gives you finer controls, like roles and resolvers.

In the end, it depends on the job. Many jobs work in both apps; some only work in ENS Explorer. The table below shows where to do each one.

Common questions

What are v1 and v2 names?

A v1 name hasn't been upgraded to ENSv2 yet; in the ENS App its renewal page shows an ENSv1 only badge. A v2 name is on ENSv2, including any name that has been upgraded. You can upgrade most v1 names to ENSv2; a name in grace must be renewed first.
