ENS App and Explorer are on the Sepolia testnet. Features may change before mainnet.
Renewing adds time to a name's registration so it does not expire. On an ENSv2 name, a Renew button appears at the top right of its page. Using the ENS App? See Renew a name.
Renew one name
Note: onchain changes cost gas — the network fee Ethereum charges to process a transaction. It goes to the network, not to ENS. In ENS Explorer it is paid in ETH from your connected wallet, and your wallet shows the exact fee before you approve.
Open the name's page and select Renew (top right). It shows on ENSv2 names only.
Choose how much time to add, or use Pick by date. The modal shows the extension length, the new expiry date and the total before you commit.
Select Next, then choose a payment method (e.g., DAI, USDC). Explorer shows your available balance. Select Confirm.
Explorer lists the steps it needs: first approve the stablecoin payment, then the renewal itself. Select Start, then Open wallet, and approve. Once the first confirms, the next prompt follows on its own; approve that too.
When the renewal confirms, the Expires date on the name's page moves forward by the term you chose.
Renew several names at once
This also works for names you haven't upgraded to ENSv2, on their own or mixed with upgraded names.
Select your account (bottom left), then your address, then Names.
Tick each name you want to renew. A bar shows how many you have selected, with a Renew button.
Select Renew. If a note says renewing doesn't change the owner, select I Understand.
Set how long with the For stepper, or use Pick by date. Each name shows a subtotal, with a Total below. Select Next.
Choose a payment method and select Next. Explorer lists the steps: Approve payment, then one renewal for each name. Select Start, then Open wallet, and approve each prompt in your wallet. When every step is ticked, select Done.
Common questions
How do I pick a custom expiry date?
Select Pick by date and pick the date.
How does the price work?
Pricing is in USD. Renewing for two years or more discounts the whole renewal, not just the extra years. When you renew several names at once, each name costs its own price and the window shows the total. Full tiers: Multi-year discounts.
Why does my wallet ask more than once?
You pay for the renewal in a stablecoin. One prompt gives ENS permission to take the amount from your stablecoin balance; the next does the renewal itself. Each prompt also needs a little Sepolia ETH for gas.
Can I renew someone else's name?
Yes. Any wallet can renew a .eth name. Renewing never changes who owns it or gives you any control over it. See Who can manage my name? Roles in ENS Explorer.
Can I renew a name I haven't upgraded to ENSv2?
Yes, but not from the name's page: it shows Renew for ENSv2 names only. Tick the name under Renew several names at once above, or renew it in the ENS App. For what else you can do with the name in each app, see What can I do in the ENS App and in ENS Explorer?
Can I renew a name during its grace period?
Yes, and anyone can. The time you add goes onto the old expiry date, not onto the day you pay, so days already spent in grace come out of the term. An ENSv2 name has a 28-day grace period; a name you haven't upgraded keeps its 90-day grace period. After grace, anyone can register the name, with a Price Cooldown: a one-off extra fee for the first 21 days that starts high and falls to $0. If a name you haven't upgraded is in grace, renew it before you upgrade it to ENSv2. Full guides: Expiry & grace period · Price Cooldown.
Where do I see the expiry date?
On the name's page — the Expires line on the overview, and under the Ownership tab.
