At ENSv2 launch, three things change for .eth names. Names of 5 characters or more cost $8 a year. Multi-year registrations and renewals get a discount of up to about 44%. The grace period after expiry is 28 days instead of 90. Nothing changes for a name until you upgrade it (move it from ENSv1 to ENSv2 in the ENS App). Upgrading adds a free 62 days to make up for the shorter grace period.

Prices
The annual fee for names of 5 characters or more moves from $5 to $8. Fees for 3- and 4-character names do not change. Fees are paid in USDC, a stablecoin (a token that holds a value of one US dollar).

Multi-year discounts
The discount depends on how many years you add in one go, and it applies to every year you add. Years the name already has do not count towards the tier. The same tiers apply to first registrations and to renewals, for all three name lengths:

Tip: the discount deepens at 6 years, so 6 years can cost less in total than 5: $27.00 against $27.50 for a name of 5 characters or more. If you are weighing up 5 years, 6 is the better deal.
The grace period
Under ENSv2 the grace period is 28 days; v1 names keep 90. During the grace period the name does not resolve (it stops working) and cannot be transferred. Anyone can still renew it at the standard price, nobody else can register it, and renewing restores it with its records.
The end date works out the same either way. Upgrading a name to ENSv2 adds a free 62-day renewal, and 90 minus 28 is 62, so there is no advantage to staying on v1. A name you have not upgraded keeps the v1 90-day grace until you do.
After the grace period ends without a renewal, the name is released into Price Cooldown: a 21-day window in which anyone can register the name, with an extra fee that starts at $100 million (a price nobody is meant to pay; it stops bots grabbing names) and falls to $0. See Price Cooldown.

Common questions
Does a year and 11 months count as two years?
No. You need to reach the threshold: a year and 11 months is priced at the 1-year rate. To get the 2-year discount, add at least 2 years in one go.
Do I still get the discount if I renew a name in grace?
Yes. The tier is set by the time you add, whether the name is active or in grace. That time runs from the expiry date, not from today, so days already spent in grace come out of the term you pay for. Renew a name 10 days into grace by 2 years and it comes back with 2 years less 10 days ahead of it.
What if my name is in grace when ENSv2 launches?
A name in grace cannot be upgraded. Renew it first, then upgrade; the upgrade adds the free 62 days. See Upgrade your name to ENSv2.
Do I have to upgrade?
No. A name stays on v1, with the 90-day grace, for as long as you hold it. You move to ENSv2 only by upgrading. If a name is released after expiry, whoever registers it next gets an ENSv2 name.
