Connect a wallet and enable Smart Sessions

Connect your wallet to app.ens.dev and enable Smart Sessions, so ENS actions may run without a wallet pop-up each time.

ENS App and Explorer are on the Sepolia testnet. Features may change before mainnet.

Smart Sessions are how app.ens.dev signs your ENS actions in the background. With them on, registering a name, renewing one, or saving records can take a single click, or fewer clicks, instead of a wallet pop-up each time.

How to connect and set up each time

The prompt to enable Smart Sessions appears each time you connect your wallet.

1. Connect your wallet

  1. Go to app.ens.dev.

  2. Select Connect in the top right.

  3. Pick your wallet and approve the connection.

  4. Sign the message your wallet shows. This is a Sign-In with Ethereum request: free, and it proves you own the wallet.

2. Enable Smart Sessions

As soon as your wallet connects, app.ens.dev prompts you to enable Smart Sessions. Once enabled, you'll see progress banners at the top of the screen instead of wallet pop-ups.

  1. Review the Smart Sessions prompt and select Enable Sessions.

  2. Confirm in your wallet. This sets up the session key.

How this works

When you first connect, the App sets up a Smart Account that signs your ENS actions for you. It uses the address you connect with, so the address you see is your own. Connect with the same wallet again and you get the same Smart Account back.

Common questions

Can I skip Smart Sessions?

You can use app.ens.dev without Smart Sessions, but some features need it, so what you can do without is limited.

How do I turn Smart Sessions off, or back on?

There's no off switch. Disconnecting your wallet resets the approval, and the prompt appears again next time you connect, so disconnect and reconnect is how you clear it and set it up again.

Why does my wallet still ask me to sign?

For two things:

  • Enable Sessions: once on a fresh connection.

  • Sign-In with Ethereum: once per session, optional and free. Needed for notifications and favourites.

After that, ENS actions like registering, renewing and editing records may run with no wallet pop-up.
