ENS App and Explorer are on the Sepolia testnet. Features may change before mainnet.
Registering a .eth name on ENSv2 is done in the ENS App at app.ens.dev. You pay the annual fee in a stablecoin such as USDC, and a small amount of ETH for gas. Registration takes two wallet transactions.
Before you start
Connect a wallet to app.ens.dev.
Make sure your wallet holds enough stablecoin (e.g. USDC) to cover the registration fee, plus a small amount of ETH for gas.
Steps
Search for the name. Type the name you want into the search bar on the home page. The result shows whether the name is available, taken, or in Price Cooldown.
Select the name. If it is available, open its page and select Register.
Choose a registration period. Pick how many years to register for, or use Pick by date. The app shows the price per year and any multi-year discount. Registering for 3 or more years unlocks a meaningful discount — see Multi-year discounts.
Select a payment method. Choose a stablecoin from your connected wallet (e.g. USDC). The app shows your available balance and the total cost before you commit.
Approve and register. The app runs two transactions. Select Start, then Open wallet for each. The first authorises the stablecoin spend; the second completes the registration. Once both confirm, the name is yours.
Once registered, the name appears in your wallet and you can manage it in ENS Explorer.
Pricing
The annual fee depends on the character length of the name:

Common questions
Why are there two wallet prompts?
You pay in a stablecoin, not ETH. The first prompt authorises ENS to take the amount from your stablecoin balance; the second completes the registration. Both cost a small amount of gas on top of the registration fee. See Paying with stablecoins for more detail.
Can I register a 1- or 2-character name?
No. The shortest .eth name you can register is 3 characters.
What if the name I want is in Price Cooldown?
A name in Price Cooldown can be registered by anyone, but an additional fee on top of the standard price applies. It starts at $100 million and falls to $0 over 21 days. You can watch it drop and register whenever the fee reaches an amount you are comfortable with — but someone else may register first. See Price Cooldown.
Is there a minimum registration period?
Yes — the minimum is one year. You can add more time at any point by renewing. See Renew (extend) a name.
What is the difference between registering and upgrading?
Registering is for names you don't own yet. Upgrading is for names you already own on ENSv1 — it migrates them to ENSv2 without changing ownership. See Upgrade your name to ENSv2.
